Clean Air Day 2022

What is Clean Air Day?

The World Health Organisation and the UK Government recognise that air pollution is the largest environmental health risk we face today. Amongst many issues relating to the environment, air pollution can be a major contributing factor in heart and lung diseases, can be linked to low birth weight and children’s lung development, and may even contribute to mental health issues. Every year it is estimated that air pollution causes up to 36,000 deaths in the UK.

16th June, 2022 is National Clean Air Day: A day to take action and make positive changes, such as car-free days or planting trees in public spaces, all of which will reduce levels of harmful pollutants in our atmosphere. You can also take part by reducing your own emissions at home with simple changes like switching off lights when you leave a room or using energy efficient appliances where possible. Together we can make sure everyone has access to clean air!

Clean Air Day brings together communities, businesses, educational establishments, and the health sector:

  • to improve public understanding of air pollution, both indoors and outdoors
  • to build awareness of how air pollution affects our health
  • to explain some of the easy things we can all do to tackle air pollution, helping to protect the environment and our health too

How is AEG trying to help?

One of the key things we are doing as a company is to reduce the amount of environmental pollutants from our products and manufacturing processes. To that end we aim to ensure that our appliances are meeting the best and most up to date energy efficiency standards. This means that not only should our appliances keep your energy bills lower, but their demand on the power grid is reduced. Many of our best-selling products have an A rating or above, meaning they are both better for your pocket and the environment.

Another one of our main focusses is on how we, as a company, operate to ensure that we are doing the best we can to reduce air pollution.

Our key milestones since 2015 are:

  • 50% of our total energy consumption is now from renewable sources
  • 71% reduction in operational CO2 emissions
  • 24% reduction in primary transportation CO2 emissions

We have also established our first 100% green route in Italy, delivering products directly to our customers in the Milan area via e-trucks. With over 34,000km driven, we have already saved more than 21 tons of CO2 and have reduced the most common pollutants from petrol and diesel engines such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides.

We have made a commitment to using recycled materials which reduces the energy demands in production and thus reduces the amount of air pollution from power stations. In fact, in 2020 we used +400 metric tons of recycled plastics in the production of our appliances. Our ambition is to move towards systems that are more circular and ensure the maximum value from resources by recovering and reusing materials at the end of each product life. That is why we have increased the percentage of recycled plastic in our appliances, while decreasing the volume of total sourced plastic. How our products can help keep your home pollutant free

One of the best ways to improve the air quality in your home is with an AEG air purifier. We have various models available in different sizes to meet the demands of your home. Their responsive technology continuously measures indoor air quality levels and automatically adjusts the air purification rate to provide a healthy indoor environment All models come with a guarantee to remove 99.97% of pollutants from the air, as well as other particulates that can cause allergies such as dust and pollen.

The multi-stage filtration system contains an active carbon layer filter to absorb smells from cooking, cleaning products and pets, and has an odour sensor which acts like an "electronic nose". This automatically reduces hazardous gases or solvents from the air, which are absorbed by the active carbon filter.

Each filter layer comes with a Smart tag which monitors filter usage and will display the remaining lifetime in the AEG Wellbeing App. The filters within the AEG air purifier range are available to buy directly from our online store and can be customised to your needs.

Larger more advanced models such as the AX9 also feature a remote control and AirSurround which creates a powerful, smooth spiral movement that efficiently circulates and cleans the air in your home.

Between us we can do our very best to improve our air quality in the home and beyond, and make this year’s Clean Air Day the biggest and most impactful yet.
