We have a three bed semi-detached with two children and pets. We have only laminate flooring downstairs and forever have the crumb battle which we tended to deal with by using a trusty old handheld Vax or, for bigger jobs, a trusty 14 year old powerhouse of a hoover by another well-known brand.
So, I was surprised by how small and lightweight this hoover was when I unpacked it. I simply could not believe that this would be able to handle the level of crumb/fur/feather/fluff that our household produces. I set it up in a matter of minutes following easy to read pictorial instructions. I then put it on charge in my hoover cupboard, noting that it only took up a fraction of the space of my other old hoover.
When the hoover was charged (it only took about an hour and indicated it had charged by showing three solid lights on the front) I then took it for a spin around the house. The hoover is very lightweight and moves around furniture smoothly and easily. There are no cords trailing about, and if you need to hoover say a window sill for example, the middle part of the hoover disconnects and becomes a handheld vax like hoover. Then you can add a brush attachment which is handily situated behind the unit and away you go. For sofas there is another furniture attachment, a crevice tool, and a longer brush tool.
Because it is so lightweight I would recommend this hoover to elderly people or to those who have a flat perhaps with laminate or hardwood flooring. However, there were some problems when I came to vacuum the carpeted stairs. Unfortunately, the hoover did not have the power to really lift the fibres and detritus off the carpet and I needed to resort to my old hoover. My cleaner did not like the hoover at all as she personally feels that battery powered hoovers do not maintain the charge or have the power required to do a good job. She used it for a bit but then went back to my old hoover to finish the task.
However, I personally love this hoover for its simplicity. I can whizz it around downstairs after the kids have gone off to school to get all the bits up off the floor without having to resort to wrestling my other hoover out of the cupboard. The AEG does not scratch surfaces and feels so smooth to use. I am using my little Vax a lot less now because the AEG is easier and nicer to use. I particularly like the little lights that are along the bottom of the hoover so you can see the floor as you hoover it! My 11 year old son is also starting to hoover up as he can get this out of the cupboard and do a spot of hoovering without it being too big a drama. There is still a drama, but lessened with the AEG :-)
The hoover feels exceptionally good quality and it has found a role in our house. However, I would not use it in a family home as a main hoover. It is ideal to supplement a heavy duty hoover, or for someone who needs a lighter device for example.
