Attractive Appliance you didn't realise you needed in your life until you get one!

My son (11), my husband and myself are all asthmatics who have to take daily medication. We also suffer from hayfever and pet allergies. Despite this we do insist on having pets in our lives which means we have to keep everywhere clean and dust free as much as possible. This item is advertised as being able to 'purify' the air and even add 'ions' to the air - whatever they are! I thought this would be useful to us seeing as we would like to keep our air quality as clear as possible in our home for health reasons.
I was surprised how stylish the appliance is. A nice grey colour with a leather style handle to move it about if required. Apparently you can get some matching legs for it so that it will look ultra cool in your minimalist living room presumably!
We started by putting the item in the kitchen but it got in the way a bit there so we moved it to the landing where it is near all our bedrooms. This is where I think the dust mites hang out and is where I want the clean air.
Setting it up was easy. Literally out the box, download the AEG Wellbeing app, find the WiFi and off you go. You can even name your device. As my kids are big Marvel fans they decided on calling it Groot (a character in a Marvel film) which kind of reflects the size of the device (i.e. original Groot so pretty big :-)
So on the app it says 'Groot' is detecting the air quality and if the appliance is unhappy with the pollutant level then a light will go on the top of the device to indicate the level of air quality. It has mainly been green (which is good) but every so often 'Groot' shows a red light on the top and starts pumping out some air. If I look on the app during one of these moments I can see that the air is being 'cleaned' and bringing down the nasty levels.
I find the science behind the appliance hard to understand to be honest. I can't really tell if it is doing any good but it is comforting to see that bad levels of a pollutant have been detected and that 'Groot' is dealing with it. The filter is showing at 98% on the app - it will be interesting to see how long a filter lasts and what the running costs are for this appliance over time.
As it is quite big (about the size of a 4 year old child) you will need some space to put it in with 50 cm around the appliance so it can read the air properly. It is easy to set up and run. Just don't be alarmed after you spray some hairspray or perfume if it suddenly flashes a red light and pumps out a blast of air!
